Consortium History
In 2023, as an outgrowth of member discussions of the Inclusive Catholic Creative Cluster for Formation and Education (commonly called the Ed Pod), surveys were conducted to collect data on the interest of fostering dialogue and ecumenical cooperation, wherever possible, around the mutually shared goals of seminary education, whether it might entail clergy formation, education of laity, or continuing education within respective jurisdictions.
Nearly 30 volunteers from 24 separate jurisdictions expressed interest in creating an independent consortium to meet their respective but mutually shared educational goals. Volunteers have met regularly in a working group and committees for nearly a year to discuss the concerns, recommendations, and shared benefits of forming a consortium as expressed by survey participants. The Independent Inclusive Consortium (ICC) is the product of those efforts.
Vision Statement (approved 1/9/24): We are a collegium of independent, inclusive seminaries, schools of ministry, and formation/continuing education programs dedicated to the promotion and growth of all catholic, theological, liturgical, and continuing educational programs through cooperative and combined efforts. Mission Statement (approved 1/9/24): Under articulation agreements different independent, inclusive seminaries, schools of ministry, and formation/continuing education programs can officially cooperate to produce symposiums, study papers, seminars, courses, conferences, a clearinghouse of educational resources, and a common core of academic professionals from the member institutions that will be utilized to educate students who need portability in their programs to satisfy the need of their local jurisdictions.
Core Values (approved 10/17/24):
• We respect jurisdictional and institutional boundaries and independence with regard to their courses, faculty, and prerogatives (e.g., institutional registration/legal status).
• We mutually promote the educational programs/courses of cooperating seminaries/institutions.
• We promote open and online access to resources and learning opportunities for students of cooperating seminaries/institutions.
